The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) provides a standardised approach to security assessment, authorisation and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services used by the US government. As FedRAMP’s goal is to protect US citizen data in the cloud, it’s the government’s most rigorous security compliance framework. For this reason, cloud service providers (CSPs) are required to obtain a FedRAMP authorisation in order to provide their cloud services to the federal government. There are different classifications for FedRAMP: Low, Moderate and High. FedRAMP High is the most stringent and it’s required to protect some of the government’s most sensitive, unclassified data in cloud computing.
Thanks to this formal assessment by a 3PAO, customers now have all the necessary documentation related to the [Azure Stack](https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/overview/azure-stack/) infrastructure to pursue the FedRAMP High certification for their workloads running on top of Azure Stack.
