[Amazon Aurora Serverless](/rds/aurora/serverless/) is now available with MySQL 5.7 compatibility. MySQL 5.7-compatible Aurora offers enhancements such as JSON support, spatial indexes, and generated columns, and is up to 5X faster than MySQL 5.7\.
Aurora Serverless is an on-demand, auto-scaling configuration for [Amazon Aurora](/rds/aurora/) (MySQL-compatible and PostgreSQL-compatible editions), where the database will automatically start up, shut down, and scale capacity up or down based on your application's needs. It's a simple, cost-effective option for infrequent, intermittent, or unpredictable workloads. With Amazon Aurora Serverless, you no longer have to provision or manage database capacity. You simply create an endpoint through the [Amazon RDS Management Console](https://console.aws.amazon.com/rds), and Aurora Serverless handles the rest. You [pay by the second](/rds/aurora/pricing/), and only when the database is in use.
With this launch, you can also start using the [Amazon RDS Data API](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/AuroraUserGuide/data-api.html) and the [Amazon RDS Query Editor](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/AuroraUserGuide/query-editor.html) with MySQL 5.7-compatible Aurora Serverless databases.
Aurora Serverless with MySQL 5.7 compatibility is supported in 14 regions, namely US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), US West (N. California), Canada (Central), Europe (Ireland), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (London), Europe (Paris), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Singapore), and Asia Pacific (Mumbai).
