[AWS Elemental MediaConvert](/mediaconvert/) now supports using HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) packages as input. HLS is a streaming format used for video distribution across a wide range of devices including smart phones, desktop browsers, and connected TVs. In general, you use MediaConvert to create HLS outputs for distributing content to customers. But in some cases it’s beneficial to use HLS as an input format. For example, you could convert existing HLS content to a different format; re-purpose content using the clipping, stitching, or image insertion features of MediaConvert; or transcode media as part of a live-to-VOD workflow. HLS inputs can also be used with [Accelerated Transcoding](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mediaconvert/latest/ug/accelerated-transcoding.html) in MediaConvert for use cases that require faster turnaround times. To get started, check out the [HLS Input section](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mediaconvert/latest/ug/using-hls-inputs.html) of the MediaConvert user guide. With MediaConvert, audio and video providers can easily and reliably transcode on-demand content for broadcast and multiscreen delivery. MediaConvert functions independently or as part of [AWS Media Services](/media-services/), a family of services that form the foundation of cloud-based workflows and offer the capabilities needed to transport, transcode, package, and deliver audio and video. Visit the [AWS region table](/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/) for a full list of AWS Regions where MediaConvert is available.
