Announcing unique place IDs for Amazon Location Service

Share

Services

[Amazon Location Service](/location/) now enables developers to retrieve known geographical locations using a unique identifier. For example, when using autocomplete functionality to help end-users complete their searches, developers can use the unique identifier of the end-user’s selection to retrieve the location in future queries. Using this unique identifier, developers can create consistent search experiences, filter search results, and display relevant search results on a map. Developers can use the new getPlace API with the unique PlaceID to retrieve the details of the end-user’s selected location, providing a consistent search experience, every time. Furthermore, they can identify unique places, filter search categories, and present relevant end-user search results on a map. Developers can also use the getPlace API to retrieve latitude and longitude coordinates of the location and then, request the drive time using the Amazon Location route calculator. Amazon Location Service is a location-based service that helps developers easily and securely add maps, points of interest, geocoding, routing, tracking, and geofencing to their applications without compromising on data quality, user privacy, or cost. With Amazon Location Service, you retain control of your location data, protecting your privacy and reducing enterprise security risks. Amazon Location Service provides a consistent API across high-quality location-based service data providers (Esri and HERE), all managed through one AWS console. Amazon Location Service is available in the following AWS Regions: US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), Europe (Stockholm), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region, and Asia Pacific (Tokyo).
