Now generally available, [Amazon OpenSearch Serverless](/opensearch-service/features/serverless/) is a new serverless option for [Amazon OpenSearch Service](/opensearch-service/). OpenSearch Serverless streamlines the process of running petabyte-scale search and analytics workloads without having to configure, manage, or scale OpenSearch clusters. OpenSearch Serverless automatically provisions and scales the underlying resources to deliver fast data ingestion and query responses for even the most demanding and unpredictable workloads. With OpenSearch Serverless, you pay only for the resources consumed. OpenSearch Serverless decouples compute and storage. It also separates the indexing (ingest) components from the search (query) components, with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) as the primary data storage for indexes. With this decoupled architecture, OpenSearch Serverless can scale search and index functions independently of each other and independently of the indexed data in Amazon S3\. Previously available in preview, there are a number of enhancements introduced in OpenSearch Serverless, including scale-in support and availability in three additional Regions. OpenSearch Serverless is now available in eight [AWS Regions](/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/) globally: US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Frankfurt), and Europe (Ireland).
