Announcing Provisioned Capacity for Amazon Athena

Today, AWS announced Provisioned Capacity for [Amazon Athena](https://aws.amazon.com/athena/), a new feature that allows you to run SQL queries on fully-managed compute capacity for a fixed price and no long-term commitments. Provisioned Capacity enables you to allocate dedicated compute to mission-critical queries and control workload performance characteristics such as query concurrency and cost. You can add capacity at any time, and pay only for the amount of capacity you specify and time it is active in your account. Athena is a serverless, interactive analytics service built on open-source Trino and Presto that makes it possible to analyze petabyte-scale data with ease and flexibility. Provisioned Capacity adds new workload management capabilities that help you prioritize, control, and scale your most important interactive workloads. For example, use Provisioned Capacity if you want to run many queries at the same time while ensuring queries experience minimal to no queuing. If you have high-priority workloads that require dedicated compute resources, you can use Provisioned Capacity to isolate those workloads from others running in your account. To get started, use the Athena console, AWS SDK, or CLI to request capacity for your account and select the workgroups whose queries you want to use the capacity. Provisioned Capacity is available in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Europe (Ireland), Europe (Stockholm).
