AWS announces the Software Package Catalog preview. This is a new feature of AWS IoT Device Management that enables IoT customers to register, store, and report system software packages, along with their versions and metadata in a centralized location. With Software Package Catalog, you can now easily track and monitor software package versions throughout their fleet, gain valuable insights from a central dashboard, and perform updates targeting devices with specific software version.
The Software Package Catalog feature is deeply integrated with [AWS IoT Device Management Fleet Indexing](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/iot-indexing.html), enabling developers to easily index, search, and aggregate devices based on software package versions. This integration allows developers to gain a complete overview of package version distribution and aggregated metrics across their device fleet. This feature is also integrated with [AWS IoT Device Management Jobs](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/iot-jobs.html), delivering an additional benefit of taking targeted actions based on the software versions on each device. Developers can use [AWS IoT Named Shadow](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/iot-device-shadows.html) for recording and maintaining package version information that’s installed on each device and derive necessary fleet-level metrics.
The Software Package Catalog feature is available to AWS IoT Device Management Fleet Indexing customers at no cost in all [AWS Regions](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/) where AWS IoT Device Management is offered, with the exception of AWS GovCloud regions (US-West, US-EAST) and China regions (Beijing and Ningxia). Visit AWS IoT Device Management [website](https://aws.amazon.com/iot-device-management/) to learn more about managing connected devices at scale. To get started with Software Package Catalog feature, refer to the technical [documentation](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/software-package-catalog.html).
