We are announcing the general availability of the Amazon Kinesis Video Streams Edge Agent. This feature offers a simple, efficient, and cost-effective way to connect to IP cameras on customer premises, locally record and store video from those cameras, and stream videos to the cloud on a customer-defined schedule for long term storage, playback, and analytical processing.
You can download the Amazon Kinesis Video Edge Agent and deploy it on your on-premise edge compute devices. Alternatively, you can easily deploy them in docker containers running on Amazon EC2 machines. Once deployed, you can use the new Amazon Kinesis Video Streams [APIs](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/kinesisvideostreams/latest/dg/edge.html) to update video recording and cloud uploading configurations. The feature works with any IP camera that can stream over RTSP protocol, and requires no additional firmware deployment on the cameras.
We offer the following installations for the Amazon Kinesis Video Streams Edge Agent:
* On [AWS Snowball Edge](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/snowball/latest/developer-guide/using-ami.html) devices
* As a [Greengrass](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/greengrass/index.html) component on Greengrass qualified devices
* On a native IoT deployment: The Amazon Kinesis Video Streams Edge Agent leverages [AWS IoT core](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/iot-gs.html) for managing edge configuration through the [Edge cloud APIs](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/kinesisvideostreams/latest/dg/API%5FOperations%5FAmazon%5FKinesis%5FVideo%5FStreams.html).
The Kinesis Video Streams Edge Agent and APIs are now available in all regions where Amazon Kinesis Video Streams is available, except for the Africa (Cape Town) Region. AWS will not charge for the Amazon Kinesis Video Streams Edge Agent, though you may still incur Amazon Kinesis Video Streams or other AWS costs associated with usage of this product. To learn more about these new capabilities for Amazon Kinesis Video Streams, see the [documentation](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/kinesisvideostreams/latest/dg/edge.html), and to access these components, see [here](https://pages.awscloud.com/GLOBAL-launch-DL-KVS-Edge-2023-learn.html).
