Amazon Translate enhances its custom terminology feature

Services

[Amazon Translate](https://aws.amazon.com/translate/) is a neural machine translation service that delivers fast, high-quality, affordable, and customizable language translation. Today we are announcing enhancements to the custom terminology feature that will improve translation fluency and accuracy. The enhancement creates contextually appropriate versions of matching terms to generate translations of higher quality. For example, if the matching term is singular, but the sentence requires a plural, the new version automatically performs this conversion. This enhancement also allows customers to expand the application of their term bases to wider set of translations, as illustrated in the example below. Let’s say a customer adds the English term “sign out” paired with the Spanish target translation “finalizar sesión” to their custom terminology file. With the new update, translations that require other forms of the phrase “finalizar sesión” can also be updated without compromising fluency. The sentence, “I asked him to sign out of his account” can seamlessly be translated to “Le pedí que finalizara sesión en su cuenta”, and not the grammatically incorrect “Le pedí que finalizar sesión en su cuenta”. This update removes the need for customers to have to add separate terminology entries with variations such as “finalizar sesión” and “finalizara sesión”. We recommend the use of Custom Terminology for all languages except Russian. This feature is available in all regions where Amazon Translate is available. To learn more, please read the Amazon Translate documentation on [custom terminology](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/translate/latest/dg/how-custom-terminology.html).
