AWS launches a new Local Zone in Phoenix, Arizona

Today, AWS announces the general availability of a new Local Zone in Phoenix, Arizona. This new AWS Local Zone comes with Amazon EC2C6i, M6i, R6i and C6gn instances and Amazon EBS volume types gp2, gp3, io1, sc1, and st1\. You can also access Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS, Application Load Balancer, AWS Direct Connect and NAT Gateway in this new Local Zone to support a broad set of workloads at the edge. AWS Local Zones are a type of AWS infrastructure deployment that places compute, storage, database, and other select services closer to large population, industry, and IT centers where no AWS Region exists. You can use Local Zones to run applications that require single-digit millisecond latency for use cases such as real-time gaming, hybrid migrations, media and entertainment content creation, live video streaming, engineering simulations, and AR/VR at the edge. AWS Local Zones are also available in 15 other visit metros in the US and an additional 17 metros globally that customers can use to deliver low-latency applications to end users worldwide. You can enable the new Local Zone in Phoenix, us-west-2-phx-2a, from the [Zones](https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/v2/home?region=us-east-1#Settings:tab=zones) tab in the Amazon EC2 console settings or the [ModifyAvailabilityZoneGroup](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/APIReference/API%5FModifyAvailabilityZoneGroup.html) API. The Amazon EC2 instances in the new Local Zone in Phoenix are purchasable On-Demand, as Spot Instances, or as part of Savings Plans.
