You can now use [Amazon EMR Studio](https://aws.amazon.com/emr/features/studio/) to develop and run interactive queries on [Amazon Athena](https://aws.amazon.com/athena/). This makes it possible for you to use EMR Studio for SQL analytics on Athena from the same interface that you use for your Spark, Scala, and other workloads.
EMR Studio is a unified data analysis environment where you develop data engineering and data science applications. Athena is a serverless query service built on open-source Trino that makes it possible to analyze petabyte-scale data with ease and flexibility. Within EMR Studio, Athena makes it simple to develop and run interactive queries: you can use auto-completion to develop queries quickly, browse data in your [AWS Glue Data Catalog](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/glue/latest/dg/catalog-and-crawler.html), create saved queries, view your query history, and more. Athena users can now access EMR Studio from the AWS Console using AWS IAM Authentication or without logging into the AWS console by enabling federated access from your identity provider (IdP) via [AWS IAM Identity Center](https://aws.amazon.com/iam/identity-center/) (successor to AWS SSO).
Integration with Athena is available in all commercials regions where EMR Studio and Athena are available. To learn more, see [Amazon EMR Studio](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/emr/latest/ManagementGuide/emr-studio.html) in the EMR User Guide.
