Azure Managed Lustre now offers a new 20 MB/s/TiB performance tier in public preview, designed to meet the demands of large-scale AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. This tier enables customers to provision file systems up to 25 PiB in a single namespace, delivering up to 512 GB/s of bandwidth and supporting up to 20 billion inodes for massive file counts.
The 20 MB/s/TiB tier uses Lustre’s DNE2 multi-MDS architecture, adding one MDS per 5 PiB to enable directory striping across multiple metadata targets. This boosts metadata operations, delivering over 5× higher IOPS in mdtest benchmarks as striping scales. Ideal for AI training and HPC workloads, it ensures high metadata throughput and efficient handling of massive datasets.
By offering a lower bandwidth density option, customers can optimize costs while scaling to larger namespaces, consolidating workloads into a single, high-performance file system and simplifying their architecture. To request access to the public preview, please fill out this [form](https://aka.ms/AMLFS20PreviewForm).
