The Automated Backup feature greatly extends your control over backups when you're running SQL Server 2016 in Azure Virtual Machines.
Because of [enhancements to the feature](https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/auto-backup-for-sql-server-2016-azure-virtual-machine), you can now:
* Control the schedule of your backups.
* Back up system databases and user databases on the same schedule.
You can enable the feature through the Azure portal or PowerShell on new and existing Azure virtual machines running SQL Server 2016 Enterprise, Standard, or Developer.
To learn more about configuring Automated Backup, consult the [documentation](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sql/virtual-machines-windows-sql-automated-backup-v2).
