Starting on 30 June 2020, Azure HDInsight will enforce TLS 1.2 or later versions for all HTTPS connections. We recommend that you ensure that all of your clients are ready to handle TLS 1.2 or later versions.
Transport layer security (TLS) and secure sockets layer (SSL) are cryptographic protocols that provide communications security over a computer network (learn more about [TLS](https://nam06.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FTransport%5FLayer%5FSecurity%23SSL%5F1.0.2C%5F2.0%5Fand%5F3.0&data=04%7C01%7Comidm%40microsoft.com%7C358ff8b7747c42efc4a408d783e15c9c%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C637122876261151879%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C-1&sdata=bVRvWxIMm0IwHu8j4U%2BuerDlELXOLKqgF%2BYRSKSUuEE%3D&reserved=0 "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/transport_layer_security#ssl_1.0.2c_2.0_and_3.0").). While HDInsight clusters accept TLS 1.2 connections on public HTTPS endpoints, TLS 1.1 is still supported for backward compatibility with older clients.
With the next HDInsight release, you’ll be able to opt in and configure your new HDInsight clusters to only accept TLS 1.2 connections.
