Azure Automation announces **General Availability of PowerShell 7.2 runbooks**. You can easily author runbooks in the **long-term supported version** of PowerShell, using [Azure Automation extension for VS code](https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-governance-and-management/general-availability-of-azure-automation-extension-for-visual/ba-p/3953668) (powered with **GitHub Copilot**), and execute them on a **secure and reliable platform**.
Learn more about [PowerShell 7.2 runbooks](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/automation/automation-runbook-types).
**Note:** PowerShell 7.1 is [no longer supported](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/install/powershell-support-lifecycle?view=powershell-7.3#powershell-end-of-support-dates) by parent product PowerShell. It is strongly recommended to create PowerShell 7.2 runbooks for long-term support.
